The Electrode Company is a completely self-financed private company rated by IP Wales as one of the top five most innovative companies in Wales.

The Electrode Company Ltd was formed in 1986. It is a completely self-financed private company wholly owned by its two founders - Dr GR Mathews and Dr VM Hickson. In 1990 Dr Geoff Mathews and Dr Veronica Hickson filed The World’s First Patent on adaptive noise cancellation for pulse oximetry.

TEC's credibility with the end user comes from its complete independence from pulse oximeter manufacturers and from maintaining the very best technical expertise and delivery of the highest quality service.

The company specialises in non-invasive monitoring, optical sensors and high performance pulse oximetry. It has a personnel list with impressive qualifications and experience in the field of medicine, biology and medical physics. TEC develops technology that improves the performance of pulse oximetry, thereby extending the range and application in clinical scenarios.

In 2001 TEC developed a high performance pulse oximeter system for amputees, where pulse oximetry was incorporated into an artificial leg. This technology was used as an indicator of impending complications.

In 2004 TEC launched The Lightman, the only device capable of checking pulse oximeter sensor accuracy. Recently TEC developed The Subtilis system, the first and only diagnostic pulse oximeter system.

TEC’s technical achievements have received wide acclaim. The company has been rated by IP Wales as one of the top five most innovative companies in Wales. TEC's research & development has redefined the accuracy of pulse oximeter probe measurement.

A full quality system of ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and CE Marking class llb for medical devices is applied to all The Electrode Company's manufacturing systems and services.
